My Summer Kavos Adventure

I don't know where to begin.. so I'll start right at the very beginning of this crazy experience. I went on holiday to the party island kavos in greece in early June this year with my best friend Ella. We had THE best time, such a good time that we were so close to missing our flight home (on purpose) and staying out there for the summer to work. We had job trials lined up, an apartment ready to rent, we had it set. However we did end up flying home, due to many reasons which included Ella having uni work to do over summer, our parents weren't too keen on the idea, I had a job in fashion retail to go home to and so on.. This is Ella.

I remember getting home and feeling really down and bored of my life. I was bored of the same commute to work every day, and the same routine of day to day life. So here comes the spontaneous part, I booked a flight. A one way flight for myself back to kavos. I quit my job, told my family and friends, packed my case and just two weeks after arriving back in england I was back at gatwick airport flying solo to sunny greece. At 19 years old I think that's a pretty brave (potentially dumb and unsafe) move to make, but I was doing it.

After an almost three hour flight, a two hour coach journey from corfu airport to kavos, I had finally arrived! I had already made plans to share an apartment room with a girl who worked in a bar that I made friends with when I was on holiday. She was lovely and really supportive, she was 24 so she was classed as my kavos mother!

I was offered a job in one of my favourite bars called 'Edelweiss'. I had already made friends with a couple of the boys working there whilst I was on holiday, so when I started work they made me feel really welcome. My job as a promoter consisted of getting people into the bar to buy a drink. Along with the other promoters I would stand outside the bar talking to drunk holiday goers, offering drink deals and having an awesome time getting to know people from all over the UK. I made such good friends with guys from Wales, Ireland, Scotland, pretty much everywhere!

In our apartment were three bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. In each bedroom there were two people, so six of us lived there in total. Five girls and one boy. I know what you're thinking, he was either in heaven OR hell haha! I became so close to them all and when it came to me leaving to go home I cried and the girls cried (Ross didn't cry, but I'll let him off). I really didn't expect to cry but when it came to the goodbye hugs it was actually really emotional and I felt very sad. I had to go home earlier than expected due to personal reasons going on back in england, but living out there for a month was one of the best things i've ever done.

You may be reading this and thinking how boring it all sounds and why would I choose to go back to kavos. My job as a promoter was great. Drinking cocktails all night while meeting new people? Yes please. Sunbathing by the pool all day followed by going for a meal with friends? Err, hell yeah. I've made some pretty special friends and I'll never forget them and the awesome summer we had together. All I have to say is if you have the opportunity to work abroad, take it. Even if you're nervous or unsure, you'll regret turning it down. Go on as many adventures as possible!
